Prophecy vs. Divination

I’m convinced that there is confusion about the difference between prophecy and divination so I wanted to offer a little clarity.

The primary purpose of a prophetic word isn’t to tell you about your future and your blessings, but to reveal the plan and purpose of God concerning your life.

The King James Study Bible defines divination as “the false use of means to discover the divine will.”

Simply put, divination is seeking knowledge through ANY natural, psychological, or supernatural means other than the Holy Spirit- this includes things like horoscopes/astrology, numerology, palm readings, spiritual readings, tarrot cards, casting lots, crystals, ouija boards, etc.

Because of the blood of Jesus, we never need a person or object to pray or connect with God! This includes prayer shawls, prayer cards, hankerchiefs, and miracle water!

We must also be careful with our need for “signs” because this can easily turn into divination. Instead of our faith being in God and his word, our faith is in the sign. As we grow in our faith, we shouldn’t need signs or wonders to believe.

It’s okay to desire insight and direction from God but you have to trust the Holy Spirit’s guidance and timing. Your future is in God’s hands, not yours. He is the author and the finisher…the Alpha and Omega.

Christians often turn to divination because:

▫️THEY LACK FAITH

▫️THEY LACK PATIENCE

▫️THEY WANT TO BE IN CONTROL

DIVINATION is an open door to the DEMONIC but REPENTANCE can close the door.

Say this prayer with me: “Dear God, please help me to trust your will and purpose for my life. I repent for ever putting my trust in a person or object more than you. Lord, help me to be led by your Spirit in all things and to be patient in my process. Let your word guide me. I know you that you have given me a hope and a future. I trust that you will get me to my expected end in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
